4 out of 5 stars Toshiba Quality   November 24, 2009

Having bought Dell laptops for many years, I was seduced into buying a Toshiba laptop about 2 years ago in a retail store, it was the ability to see and touch and compare may others at the time which made me change and buy in a retail enviroment. The Toshiba name drew me to buying a 17" Laptop, I had a good experience with a Toshiba Satelite P200 and have to say that the Toshiba helpline service is UK based and second to none. Having had this experience and needing to update slightly I again considered Toshiba and purchased a Toshiba P300 from Amazon, again excellent build quality, I am not so sure with the black keyboard and surround, silver is so much better, the black immediately shows so many finger marks and smears!! anyway the PC itself is powerful and reliable, the keyboard is not quite as responsive as the P200 but I will check any settings and I have encountered a few delays in Explorer whilst online, I have upgraded Explorer 8 and wonder if that was a good decision! The PC has bags of memory and disk space, excellent for me for office and home use, as usual the battery life is only limited and I tend to use my laptop mainly with the mains adaptor. Overall I am pleased with the laptop and would recommend the same, Toshibas are reliable and importantly the warranty and back up is good and needs to be valued should any problems occur, go out and buy one and see for yourself!

4 out of 5 stars As far as I know, it's pretty good   October 31, 2009

Laptop has been commandeered by the husband, and I haven't used it yet. I have to assume that it's good, then! It looks very nice and there have been no complaints about it. Just don't try the speech to text thing, though that's more likely a software issue.

5 out of 5 stars Form and function!   October 25, 2009

Bought this to replace home computer, and it does all required for my family who are always on it; schoolgirl homework, networking sites, web, games and music. It is a lovely-looking laptop, and seems high quality, with very good features and an often over-looked number keypad. Applications run fast and it is easy to use, and worth the higher price than some more basic models. The good processor and memory make using an older model quite painful in comparison!

Nice little speakers, lovely screen, keyboard layout excellent.... a really classy model.

Only small points I would note...... battery life not long, not a problem in the home on mains lead but don't see it lasting anywhere as long as suggested. However, we would have gone for a smaller model if it was meant for portability and work on the move. Also, mouse pad not the most defined I have used, and whole keyboard can be a bit sensitive and jumpy. Only small problems, and ones I think are common to many laptops of all price brackets.

Overall, love it!

I don't normally write reviews although I do read them before I buy as I'm sure many of you do. But what motivated me to write this review was that varing view of the few others on here.

I have been working in IT for 12 years or so now & love everything techie so it take quite a bit to impress me & I can assure you this machine does just that. The build quality is very good & it's very stylish in fact the pictures don't really do it justice (as you don't get to see the lights that appear above the touchpad & below the screen). The high gloss finish is prone to attracting finger prints but I wouldn't change it.

The machine is very fast, has a great screen, it's crammed full of ...well read the specs (but everything you'll need) & if I was being pedantic I would say the only thing missing is a blue ray drive to complement the screen & HDMI connector but at the price it's being offered not a valid complaint.

One of the other reviews mentions an issue with display drivers but I had no issues, having said that the first thing I did was set up the wireless so I could connect to the internet in my house & installed all the Windows Vista updates. I have to admit this almost put me off but in the end the price swung it for me & really glad it did.
