| Customer Reviews: Good value, some shocking design flaws. December 18, 2009 RBX (UK) I like this laptop. It's (generally) functional and quite powerful for its price bracket; however its ability to frustrate is incredible.
I'll start with the part I hate most, the touchpad. The fact that the pad is not sunken but sits at the same height as your hands while typing is pure genius, I hope the design team got massive bonuses. It means that unless you crook out your elbows and type from an obtuse angle every so often you rub the touchpad which will place the cursor somewhere completely different in a document or email and start you typing there.
Ok so it's badly designed, but it's functional right? I wish. To call the touchpad "dodgy" would be like referring to Hitler as "a bit iffy". At least once a day it decides to shut down and refuse to let me use it for a couple of minutes, or it will decide that left, right and down are ok but it's not going to let me move up. I know this part will sound ridiculous, but it honestly sometimes reverses its directions, then sits back giggling as you curse and hunt for your USB mouse.
The harman/kardon speakers, which it proudly boasts about are probably very good quality. It's a shame that they're so quiet you can't tell. Honestly, if you're going to make one of your notebook's USPs that it has these fantastic speakers, at (My thumb on the touchpad just moved my cursor up into the first paragraph) least give us enough volume to make them of any value.
The material used on either side of the touchpad isn't just an oil and fingerprint magnet, I swear it generates grease of its own accord. Get ready to be regularly cleaning your laptop.
If you're going to buy this laptop, and I do recommend it, just be sure to buy an external mouse and disable the touchpad whenever possible.
*EDIT*: I just plugged an external monitor into this machine for the first time and discovered that, while normally you have the main connector and on either side there are two little screws which go in and hold the cable in place, the design team must have decided they could save a few £/$/ by not bothering with the holes for the screws. An unsecured cable means any slight touch causes chaos with the external monitor. Great idea there guys.

overall its a good laptop -fast solidly made-my only criticism is the mouse pad is sometimes sluggish.
Brilliant all rounder May 3, 2009 Rachael Dibb (UK) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I'm a Mac user, but recently had to invest in a PC for learning web development and programming, I can honestly say I wasn't looking forward to it, but I have been pleasantly surprised! This laptop is perfect, it was the highest spec I could find for the best money (I had to get the fastest thing in my price range so I wasn't disappointed against my Mac!) The performance is excellent, the screen is amazing, and the whole thing just looks great!
It doesn't have bluetooth, but that won't kill me.
And it's a bit of a fingerprint magnet, but that isn't really an issue.
Really an excellent all rounder, and I haven't found Vista that bad- might look overwhelming but it functions slightly better than XP.
I'd recommend this PC to anyone who wants a good, sturdy, high performance PC, or even someone who's moving over from Mac and has high expectations!
