4 out of 5 stars Solid & Fast Machine   April 10, 2010
Fire Fox (Yorkshire)
Bought this to replace a one year old Fujitsu Siemens Amilo, which developed no end of minor faults due to inferior build quality. I type fast, hard and frequently but the Vaio keyboard feels like it will take any amount of abuse; the hinges are strong enough that the screen doesn't wobble about. Even small things like the USB ports are sturdy - in contrast two 'tongues' broke on the Amilo within a few months rendering the ports useless. I don't find the Vaio mouse pad very responsive and I would not buy the same type again.

Windows 7 is a great improvement on Vista and really was worth going for the newer Vaio model to get it. Like another reviewer I have experienced iTunes freezing, but suspect this is a software (Apple or Microsoft) and not a hardware (Sony) issue. This laptop is plenty powerful enough to do everything I want and quickly - Internet Explorer is annoyingly sluggish but that is easily solved by downloading a better browser such as Firefox or Chrome.

3 out of 5 stars I Once loved my Vaio   March 18, 2010

I bought a Vaio beleving that I was buying a premium quality laptop that would last me the duration of my university course. I choose the Nw 11 since it was slim, Lightweight and superslick looking. It was offered with a free windows 7 upgrade and to my dismay I was sent a 32 bit version which renders the 4th Gb of Ram useless.
Never the less I was still happy with performance and looks of my machine, However after 5 months I noticed a stress fracture in the plastic chassis of my Vaio that spread across the Magic Gate port (corner to corner)at the front. I stress this machine has not been exposed to any out of the ordinary circumstances, Knocks or bumps. I promplty rang Sony and they sent a courier round to pick it up immediatly. I waited a few days and heard nothing so I rang sony, and was outraged when a agent informed me that a quotation was ready. I fimly belive that the machine should be fixed under warranty. I tried to speak to an engineer to discuss the fault however advisors
at the call centre made it impossible and seemed delibratly obstructive not the service you expect from Sony
After much rangling I was left with no option but to have my laptop back or spend a Shocking £260 to have it repaired. The crack in the lap top will only get worse and rather than spend more money after bad I have now bought a Apple Mac(Lucky for some)although I did consider buying a metal chassis Vaio.
So in a Nutshell If you are going to buy a Sony Vaio dont buy a Nw11. It really is little better than a sub £400 laptop you are mearly paying extra to become a member of "Club Vaio". It however seems Sony dont value Brand loyalty (Almost all my electronic goods are sony as is my Phone) and should you have problems expect hefty repair bills and a long spell without your laptop.

Hello,

I'm very excited about this laptop because it works very well and it looks amazing.

The only problem that I have is that I can found the guarantee paper with the unique guarantee number. I should get this or I'm thinking wrong?

The laptop is beautiful and not heavy for the screem size.
Windows 7 is great.
But my laptop did some noise in the left side and got hot easy. IT makes a noise in the right side too, but this noise I think is normal. I sent it back to Amazon and got refound in one week, as always, Amazon service was great. I will order another VAIO,because I think it was problem in that machine and not a VAIO problem, well, I hope it is not.

5 out of 5 stars Laptop or netbook   February 14, 2010

I needed a computer to take on holidays so that I could keep in touch and have entertainment and information to hand. Originally homed in netbooks (being light to carry) but soon learnt I needed more than they could offer and should be looking at laptops. So, to cut a long story short, after a lot of research the Sony Vaio seemed to tick all the boxes I'd identified for me. It was reasonably powerful, had a good quality 15.4 inch widescreen, wirelss n enabled, integral DVD player, looked good and wasn't too bulky or heavy to carry around.
In the month or so I have been using it I've been impressed with the build quality and ease of use. Haven't found any hidden problems - and I love Windows 7. So, hopefully, all that research has paid off!
